Biography

John Joseph McDonald… Married with one child… Attended East Lyme High School where he played basketball and baseball… Was All-State in baseball during his senior year of high school in 1992… Played two years of baseball and basketball at the University of Connecticut at Avery Point (’93 & ‘94) and was named New England Junior College Player of the Year in 1994 and was 2nd team J.C. All-American in baseball… Played two years at Providence College in 1995 & ‘96 & was named 2nd team All-Big East during both seasons… Enjoys golfing and watching football… On Sept. 11, 2007, signed a 2-year contract with Toronto worth 3.8 million for the 2008 & 2009 seasons.

2009 Highlights

Appeared in 73 games, making 35 starts; 19 at SS, nine at 3B, five at 2B & two in LF… POWER SURGE: Hit four homeruns in his 151 at-bats, representing a career high… His three-run home run on Sept. 8 vs. MIN marked the 1st one of his career (has one grand slam)… His slugging percentage of .384 established a new career high, and his .258 average is his highest mark since 2005… BIG FINISH: Collected hits in 11 of his final 13 games, batting .306 with a double, two home runs and six RBI over that span… Made 32 of his 35 starts after June… Appeared in 28 games from April to June, however, 25 were as a pinch runner or defensive replacement… IN THE FIELD: Committed one error at shortstop in his 19 games, for a .990 fielding percentage.
